‘Heavy metal’ wine for the adventurous
We think Baco is a seriously underappreciated wine. A hybrid with some North American genes, Baco is remarkably resilient in the vineyard, often shaking off weather that makes purely European grapes question crossing the ocean. The wine is robust and a bit rustic, and can be a ‘love it or hate it’ wine. But it makes an amazing pairing with lean, big flavoured meats like game, and with spicy foods like Ghanian meat pies.
In our first 3 years, our Baco block produced excellent wine, but in small amounts. When we combined them, the result was something special: a smooth, big-flavoured, rustic red. If you want take a walk on the wild side, take a chance and try some Base 3.

Food Pairing
If you’re up to it, Base 3 Baco will pair with some really challenging foods: Venison, Texas chili, Ghanian meat pies? Big flavour, medium tannin, and good backbone. Base 3 can handle it.
(Just don’t spill it on whites – the purple won’t come out!)
